SAFETY IS NON-NEGOTIABLE

The Missouri Transportation Alliance in partnership with MoDOT and Missouri’s first responders is committed to delivering a comprehensive transportation plan that will keep Missouri families safe on Missouri roads and bridges.

  • Missouri’s first responders are on the front lines and they agree: funding transportation will result in fewer accidents and save lives. Safety must be a top priority.
  • There are nearly 3,000 deficient bridges throughout Missouri and the funding does not exist to adequately maintain or repair them. This is unacceptable. We must avoid a similar Minnesota bridge tragedy and protect Missouri’s families by rapidly reducing the number of unsafe and deficient bridges around the state.
  • The comprehensive transportation plan must focus on reducing high accident rates by maintaining roads and bridges, bridge replacements, smoother pavement, wider shoulders, edge-line rumble strips and better signage.
  • There are real solutions to creating safer roads and bridges; we just need to fund them and demand safety.
  • Increased funding for public transit, buses, OATS and rural transit providers will provide safer access to jobs, healthcare and other essential services for the elderly, people with disabilities and low-income Missourians.
  • Greater access and investment in public transportation in both rural and urban Missouri will relieve congestion and provide safe and reliable transportation for thousands of Missouri seniors, disabled, and working families without cars.
  • The number of cars and trucks on Missouri’s roads has doubled over the past 30 years. We must act now or face delays, detours and decaying roads and bridges.
